Christmas Traditions

Recently, we interviewed our broker-in-charge, Lindsey Moore, about some of her favorite Christmas traditions and here’s what she said:

Every year I love going to the Seven Oaks Plant Shop in Saint Andrews to buy poinsettias! I love this little business so much because it is family owned and operated and in December their outdoor greenhouse turns into a magical wonderland filled with poinsettias of every size, shape, and color you could ever imagine. They will also wrap the poinsettias for you in beautiful shiny foil with hand-made bows. My favorite is a red poinsettia with plaid paper and a lime green bow. I usually purchase about 30 big and small ones each year to give to teachers, friends, family, and other special people. Last year, they started running short on plaid paper, and the sweet owner kept a secret stash just for me because she knows how I love it so!!!

My mom and grandmother both used to decorate their homes with poinsettias for Christmas, so I have a lot of fond memories of these beautiful flowers being around during the holidays. On Christmas Eve, our church would be completely filled with memorial poinsettias everywhere. It was truly a glorious sight! Oddly enough, I actually used to work at a poinsettia shop during Christmas when I was in high school too, where I helped hand-make bows to stick in the foil, so that may be another reason why they bring back such good memories. It was one of my favorite jobs ever!!! 

In my home, I usually have several small ones in my kitchen, a large white one in my living room and two big pretty pink ones in our piano room. Poinsettias, without a doubt, are my absolute favorite part of Christmas decorating.
